Basil pic

Post by bob d »

Here's a pic of Basil taken the other day. Those who remember him in his prime will know how distresing it is to see him like this. I sure hope the levamisole works. (I hope the Photobucket thing works. I've never done it before).[imgImage][/img]

Oh wow Bob....a big change. You must be very worried about the old guy. His markings have changed a fair bit from my memory, much more pale area in the middle.
Hopefully you can pull him through for many more years of life. Whatever happens remember he will now be forever immortalized in print. He's shown at around life size in "Loaches"and therefore providing notice to all potential Clown keepers how large the fish can potentially get.

Martin.

Clowns-6 is a group and more is never too many, providing the aquarium is large enough.

It's really lovely to see some of your clowns again, Bob. Sorry to see that Basil isn't doing so well. Fingers crossed you manage to sort him out with Levamisole or the Flubendazole.

If he doesn't respond, try antibiotics. I use levamisole from time to time and even have some flubendazole around for other pets but have always had the most success with antibiotics. About 40% of the last batch of micro clowns I received showed preliminary signs of wasting and after antibiotics they are all very plump.

The bottom line is that if one treatment doesn't work, try something else rather than endlessly repeating the same or similar treatments.

Thank you all for the kind wishes. He's just got to pull through. If he doesn't respond to the levamisole I'll try to find the other meds mentioned, which can be easier said than done around here.
I don't know how old Basil is. He has lived with me for nine years now, and was fully mature and around the same length when I got him.

Basil seems to have had that effect here and there Mark. I'm sure you don't regret it. Here is a comparison pic of him checking out two new arrivals lin September 06. At this point he had recovered from his earlier bout. The new guys were very solid trade ins at a lfs. I couldn't let them go somewhere risky and they have fitted in very well. Basil has gone from this to his present look in about a month I guess.

After looking at old pics of Basil here, and thinking about how old he might be, I'm wondering if he's actually a she.

If he is a her, fish menopause would explain the weight lose or maybe she just lost all her eggs.
