Peat Moss

Post by Curtis »

When you use peat moss with loaches, is it a finely grained powder or does it look like moss?

Which brands have you guys used?

I use the almost powder stuff sold for gardening. Make sure there are no fertilizers or surfactants added. I use it 2 ways. I have made a mixed substrate of peat moss and Soil Master Select, and many of my tanks have a nylon stocking of peat moss in the filter.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!

i also get the same as Diana to use in box filters when i'm setting certain fish up for breeding, plus it's a darn sight cheaper than Ehiems.

Thanks, I was expecting the garden stuff to be somewhat "mossy" instead of ground into a powder. Thanks for the reply's.

If you can I'd recommend trying to get hold of some real peat bog fibre. It's usually more expensive than the garden centre stuff but well worth it imo.

Where does one find whatever you just said Matt? Do you have any online providers or actual product names?

Thanks.
